David & Mandy have completely refurbished this wonderful country pub and are really putting it back on the map as a pub that just has to be visited! The 4 ales are always changing and include the ever popular John Smiths. On the food side, the menu changes as often as the ales and includes many English favourites like crispy battered Fish & Chips as well as international and exotic dishes, including an excellent Curry. All this and with regular music, a games room and accommodation from just £45, it is hardly surprising that The Black Smiths Arms is back on the map!

The entire Jones family have worked tirelessly to ensure that this delightful local is restored to its former glory, and they have succeeded! They have very innovatively introduced ‘Beer Tapas’, where you can sample lots of different beers with a 1/3 pint measure, a brilliant idea! The food is good pub grub, with Burgers, Barnsley Chops and Sandwiches to more sophisticated food such as Haunch of Venison. Children are well catered for and not only have their own play area, but a bouncy castle too and if you want to stay, there are now 16 new en-suite rooms from just £30 per night, excellent value.

Phil and Carol Smith are proud of their picturesque location, beside the Chesterfield canal, and the quality of their English food, created by 3 highly skilled chefs. They keep well conditioned cask ales and a fine selection of international wines. 7 of the bedrooms are en suite and from £35 are very good value.
